“Nothing activates the brain so extensively as music,”
– Oliver Sacks, M.D, Neurologist and Author

Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals for the patient and family.

Research has shown the ability to hear and benefit from music is the last of the senses that register with a dying patient.

At Comfort & Peace Hospice we believe in the comforting powers of music.  Music therapy is offered as non-pharmacological support and management for symptoms such as:

  • Pain
  • Respiratory distress
  • Decrease brain function
  • Anxiety and Agitation
  • Depression
  • Grief
  • Stress

We also use music therapy for the following:

  • Communication & expression
  • Spiritual support
  • Mood enhancement
  • Caregiver and family support
  • Family bonding
  • Legacy projects

“Music acts like a magic key, to which the most tightly closed heart opens.”

― Maria von Trapp

Music has a Profound Impact on the Brain

Research continues to reveal that music stimulates all areas of the brain. Because of this, music directly affects our senses, making it a multi-sensory experience, involving our voice, ears, eyes, and skin. As a result, music can have a direct impact on an individual’s physical, emotional, and cognitive functioning.

Music Provides an Outlet for the patient and family.

Music taps into our emotions and creates a non-threatening, non-invasive atmosphere where you or your loved ones are provided an outlet to be creative, be social, and express emotions.
